Dana Sederowsky

Dana Sederowsky works with video performance and photography. As an artist she works solely with herself and her own body. It is her determined choice to be autonomous and solitary. Her video performance work is based on her own manuscripts, which are generated in automatic response to current issues. These pieces contain a fusion of unsettling issues regarding personal life-choices, combined with universal existential questions that we experience in everyday life, for example via media channels.
This information is delivered, directly in the face of the viewer, in the hope of making personal connections.
Dana Sederowsky has been concentrating on two ongoing projects: Dana Aid, started in 1998 and Special Announcements, started in 2006. These projects revolve around Sederowsky´s current questioning of authorities and autocratic ways: the identification of proclaimers of truths and their (non-)reliability as proclaimers of truth. Questioning the fundaments for rational “truth” is Sederowsky´s evergoing mission. She challenges both the way in which the producer presents her/himself in relation to the recipient, as well as the role of language and the performance of language communication via media.
She questions why we refrain from taking responsibility.
Sederowsky is the writer of the texts, the actor performing them and the director of the camera.

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENTS (2006) In the work Special Announcements the viewer meets a naked face that is situated in a monochromic black hole. She asks for attention and thoughtfulness about life itself. Focus is on the process of using speech and how words are delivered. The matter of language is thoroughly investigated and the performance is strictly directed. The figure is an esoteric whose eyes are closed, humanity does not seem to be worthy of a single look. An introvert character in contact with a soul that does not show any outgoing emotions. From this oracle-like position she speaks in a parallel manner as if she seems to be in dialogue with herself. Special Announcements is built on seven pieces of sequences at 02:00 minutes, with separate titles, in turn: Terrorism, Evolution, Religion, Utopia, Politics, Doomsday and Solitude, which all refer to universal issues, and as regards content there is an investigation of pausing, historical references and repetitions in the form of overt speech acts. SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENTS (2006) I verket Special Announcements möter betraktaren ett avskalat ansikte i befinner sig i ett monokromt svart hålrum. Hon pockar på uppmärksamhet och eftertänksamhet inför livet självt. Fokus ligger i själva processen av att använda tal och hur orden levereras. Språkets roll undersöks grundligt och framförandet är strikt regisserat. Figuren är en esoteriker vars ögon är slutna, mänskligheten tycks inte bevärdigas med en endaste blick. En introvert karaktär i kontakt med själen som inte visar några yttre känslouttryck Från denna orakelliknande position tilltalar hon betraktaren parallellt som hon verkar föra ett samtal med sig själv. Special Announcements är uppbyggt av sju stycken sekvenser à 02:00 minuter, med enskilda titlar, i ordning: Terrorism, Evolution, Religion, Utopia, Politics, Doomsday och Solitude som alla refererar till universella stora ämnen och innehållsligt utforskas pausering, historiska referenser och upprepningar i form av tydliga talakter.
