Although her body lies dead on the roof, Diana acts as the perfect hostess inviting us to celebrate her passing, or as it reads on the invitation card: La Petite Mort. A table is set with all the delights one can imagine, just for us to indulge in while waiting for that sexual climax of death that we, by the word pun, have been promised. Diana has this unspoken performance character that sometimes resemble the perfect wife of a conservative man who thinks a women ought to serve, smile and be pleasant to look at. But to take part in one of her performances always leaves you with a bitter sting in the heart. She forces you to make an ethical choice in how to participate in a game with the undercurrents of abuse. Yes, it all feels pleasant and nice when she asks you what you want to drink, but then you realize that she will have exactly the same herself, glass after glass, serving and smiling, drinking and pleasing. The true meeting human to human is lost and instead you are left with the feeling of shame and incapacity to act when you really should have been brave enough to act. Diana is a performance artist who uncovers the lies and moral blindness we as members of today's society hide behind. By her serving we are forced to ask ourselves the question: Who am I in this game of giving and taking? |
